In 1845, the Apostolic Vicar appoints Edouard Mich(a)elis, a chaplain born in Münster and known from the conflicts of the Cologne bishopric, as a professor at the newly founded Luxembourg seminary. In this state-funded institution, the "new" Luxembourg clergy are socialized and disciplined according to ultramontane norms. Rationalistic theology, which had been taught at the philosophical college in Leuven, where some members of the older Luxembourg clergy had been trained, has no place in Mich(a)elis's priestly education. In 1848, Mich(a)elis will play an important role in the founding and political orientation of the newspaper Luxemburger Wort.
