Shrine of Remembrance
Melbourne, Australia

The Education Centre Entry Courtyard refers to the First and Second World Wars including many symbolic features. The most dramatic being the giant metallic canopy that takes the form of a Flanders poppy. The wall panels provide and outline of an elongated map of the world and the perforations are a Morse code translation of the Ode of Remembrance by Laurence Binyon.

Other symbolism includes a pattern on the flooring in reference to the First World War dazzle camouflage utilised on HMAS Melbourne and HMAS <i>Australia and a central concrete element in reference to the trenches.
