This is a straw-woven basket designed for storing eggs, and is densely woven in a conical or cylindrical shape. Its bottom is supported by straw ropes and then woven in a round spiral form. A hole is driven in one side to be used for eggs to be put into or pulled out of the basket. The inlet was sometimes made by inserting an arched wooden frame into the hole used for weaving straw strings along the frame. Some baskets had a loop attached to the center of the basket’s top while some had a separate body and a lid. There are bottle-shaped baskets with a spout, which have a hole on one side in order to easily place or remove eggs out of the basket.
