In ancient Egypt, the ibis was an animal consecrated to Toth, the god of wisdom and learning, the master of language and inventor of writing, with knowledge of hieroglyphics and all their secrets, in addition to being the maker of laws and the one who calculated time. These conditions consecrated him as secretary to the gods and he was considered to be a magician and healer .His cult was widespread throughout all of Egypt and mummified ibises have been found in abundance in necropolises. Represented in movement with its head held aloft, the tail of this Ibis has cast blue glass appliqués that imitate lapis lazuli, and its spread feet are engraved with fine detail. The eyes are made with incrustations of copper and obsidian.
