This painting echoes and expands the subject of Bridgman’s Road to Biskra, by gathering seven figures in Arabic costume around a seated and a standing camel.

Waller was an American who spent the bulk of his career as an architect, turning exclusively to painting only in 1903. He was involved in supporting art training programs in New York City, and in archaeological expeditions to the Near East. He was elected an Honorable Life Fellow of the Metropolitan Museum in New York where many of his works are still held.
