This "Ehrenhäckel" with miner's motives was awarded to miners for long service and exemplary work. It served as an ornamental stick for parades and other festivities. This "Häckel" belonged to Hans Spang of Neuweiler who worked in the Reden pit. The precursor of this "Ehrenhäckel" was a comparatively simple and plain "Bergstock". It was one meter long and also had a smaller hammer on the upper end of its wooden stick. The "Bergstock" was therefore a tape measure, walking stick and tool for tapping on rock at the same time. Depending on the region and era, the "Häckel" were designed with certain variations.
