This sarong, called Ei Worapi, consists of two pieces of Ikat weaving, sewn together. It’s motifs reveal a combination of local and European styles. Flowers in full bloom represent the system of kinship in the Sawunese society, while the motif of a European lady, playing the harp, shows Dutch colonial and also Christian influences, with Christianity beginning to spread and develop in Sawu, around the 19th century.
