Created in Le Havre in 1636 by Jean de Gindertal, this cannon was part of a special commission for the Navy, placed by Cardinal Richelieu. Richelieu's grand scheme was to provide the kingdom of France with a powerful Navy, fit for war.
For the first time in France, the artillery for the Navy was different to that of the army. Besides the crowned L of Louis XIII, the cannon has a navy anchor, indicating its service.
