New Delhi , India

Hinduism believes in the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesha as responsible for the Creation, Sustenance and Destruction of the Cosmic World. This object depicts the face of Siva or Mahesha on a linga (the phallic symbol for Siva). The deity has soft features, well defined eyebrows and eyes suggestive of meditation. Tucked in the three pointed tiara are Ganga and Chandra (the moon). An unusual feature is the presence of curling snakes around the deity's face.
