An earthenware jar with lid with watermelons and a rooster painted on it in the center, Talavera style. In this piece you can see two recurring motifs of Cubiles, the rooster and the watermelon. As well, Cubiles reproduce traditional talavera patterns (white background and cobalt blue details) in this jar, in addition makes is own contribution to this practice with the figures before mentioned and other elements like the bulb between them. Cubiles was born in Cuba and went out to never return in early sixties, studied arts in United States and moved in the eighties to Mexico to lived here until his dead. He worked in painting, ceramics and engravings been related to artist like Jose Luis Cuevas and Rufino Tamayo.
