The eliminitarórias for the World Cup 1970 was the trigger for a confrontation between El Salvador and Honduras which became known as the War of the 100 hours - or Soccer War. Passions were inflamed from the first game, but the second, which took place in El Salvador, there was an attack on the hotel in the Honduran technical committee was staying. Just before the third game, El Salvador broke diplomatic relations with the neighboring country and 17 days after the military bombed Salvadoran border cities of Honduras, to get to Tegucigalpa.
