Elaborate diadem

This diadem composed of a gold strip inlaid with nine semi-precious stones was discovered buried in a lead coffin decorated with figurative art and containing jewelry. The coffin lay inside a mausoleum used, in all likelihood, by pagans. The diadem is typical of the late Roman period, but is rarely found locally, and was undoubtedly imported.
