Elaborately carved animals and creatures

Misericords were carved into the seats under the chancel to allow the choir and clergy –those who led the church service – to rest. These were carved into the shapes of animals including owls, eagles, bats and lizards. Mythological creatures, such as mermaids and dragons can also be found decorating these seats.
