The sword is one of the most luxuriously adorned swords ever owned by any medieval European ruler. The two-handed sword with straight quillons and a ball pommel sports a vigorous diamond-section with a brass-covered wolf's mark of Passau. The iron quillons and the velvet-covered wooden scabbard have silvergilt and colored enamel mounts. Its red, white, and green filigree band of flowers, executed in closonné enamel, shows the national colors of Hungary. The coats-of-arms on the mount of the rock crystal pommel bear the German royal eagle, as well as the Hungarian and the Bohemian coasts-of-arms. The heraldic symbols refer to Sigismund, King of Hungary and Bohemia. The black eagle indicates his rank of German king which distinguished him as imperial successor. The sword was gift of King Sigismund to Markgrave Friedrich IV the Warlike.
