Comédie-Française and Ivo van Hove presented Electra / Orestes at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, marking the first-ever appearance of the legendary French troupe at this historic site. Drawing on Euripides’ tragedies, the production reunited two leading European theatre institutions. Electra and Orestes, children of a fallen house, turn ferocious as they seek revenge against Clytemnestra and Aegisthus, evoking enduring questions about bloodlines, exile, and retribution. By reigniting ancient drama’s social resonance, Van Hove offered a timely reflection on our shared human predicament.
