When Mrs. Walker purchased her home in 1904, she immediately added electricity to the home. One way to showcase this new technology was the installation of an elaborate Art Nouveau lamp which was a gift from Walker's St. Luke employees. This decorative newel post lamp was installed in the Walker's foyer, ensuring that it was the first sight visitors would see upon entering the Walker home. Years later, Walker's surviving grandchildren recalled the glass grapes shielding the electric bulbs were so convincing, that on one occasion, they tried to pluck them and eat them.
