This crane was installed c1970 and has performed crane duties for fitting out and other purposes at the Sutherland Wharf since that time. A relatively new crane evidencing crane design of the 1970s, it is a visually prominent item on the Island and is the successor to a number of cranes which have been located in this position. It is associated with the fitting out of ships and provides evidence of the nature and extent of such activities on the Island.
