The election of King August II in Wola near Warsaw in 1697.

The picture presents the sittings of the Election Sejm in 1697. Warsaw, since 1570 the permanent seat of the Sejm, and since 1573 also convocation and election gatherings, since the reign of the Vasa, became a residential city of Polish kings. Two elections - of Henri Valois in 1573 and August III in 1733. - took place on Kamień, on the Praga shore of the city. The remaining elections took place in the fields of the village of Wola near Warsaw. In the foreground, genre scenes depict representatives of various states, the election field with participants in the centre, on the horizon a panorama of Warsaw with the Royal Castle, St. John's Cathedral, Krasiński Palace, among others. On the left side there are drawings of a shed, a wooden building erected temporarily for senators. In the field surrounded by a dry moat and an earth embankment there are senators (on armchairs) and earthly deputies (on stools). The most important place in the row opposite to the shed is occupied by the primate as an interrex. In the middle of the assembly there is a foreign deputy dressed in a clergyman's robes presenting a candidate for the Polish throne, probably an emperor's ambassador, Bishop of Passau, Count Lamberg, who supports the candidacy of Elector of Saxony, Frederick August I. Around the trenches crowds of nobility gathered under the provincial flags. The anonymous picture is a graphic copy of a representative painting by the Jan III Sobieski's court painter active in Poland until 1703, Martin Altomonte.
