Elephant Embracing Stork

A hand-painted ceramic sculpture by the South African artist Bonnie Ntshalintshali (1965-1999) titled Elephant embracing Stork. Ntshalintshali often used Zulu mythology and biblical symbolism in her sculptural works for her narratives. This subject matter depicts a massive land mammal, the African Elephant and the timid, bird a stork, in embrace to symbolise strength and self-control embracing vigilance and piety. Short biography: Bonakele (Bonnie) Mayvee Ntshalintshali was born in 1967 in Winterton in KwaZulu Natal. She survived Polio as a child and was apprenticed to the South African Ardmore ceramic studio in Kwa-Zulu Natal. She won several awards during the 1980s and 1990s. Ntshalintshali passed away in 1999 and a museum named the Bonnie Ntshalintshali Museum was opened in 2003 near Lidgetton West and Michaelhouse in the Natal Midlands of South African in her honour.
