A copper engraving titled, Elias Thebites (Hosea Son of Elah) "Elijah in the Desert fed by an Angel" by the Belgian artist Coenrad Lauwers (1632-1685). The engraving is a print after the original oil painting, "The prophet Elijah nourished by the Angel" (1640) by the Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640). The engraving by Lauwers depicts the biblical prophet Elijah, being fed in the desert by an angel as described in II Kings 17 verse 1. Short Biography: Coenrad Lauwers was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1632 and was part of a family of engravers that specialised in etchings and print selling. He was the son and pupil of Nicolaes Lauwers, both father and son were known for their engravings after Rubens. Coenrad Lauwers spent most of his time recreating the important works of many other artists in Antwerp and passed away in 1685.
