This photograph shows Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo with his beloved niece, Elinor Pugh (1879-1962). A gifted artist, Elinor had a sparkling sense of humour, which often made its way into her drawings, which included affectionate sketches of her uncle. Upon Mackmurdo's death Elinor inherited a large collection of his work, which she eventually bequeathed to the William Morris Gallery.
