Elizabeth nee Alleyn (a widow) married Sir William Jones in 1661. She outlived her second husband (Sir William) who died in 1682, she is depicted in mourning attire in this portrait. This painting along with its pendant, Dubois 'Sir William Jones Kt.'' was executed in 1682 making these the earliest dated English pictures by Simon Dubois who is said to have arrived in England in 1681.
