Provenience note: while the provenience is not confirmed by the accession record, it is very likely the hoopa valley reservation, as hrdlicka's 1908 tb studies took him to the hoopa valley agency.

From card: "Made by cutting a section of elk antler and working out the interior thro a narrow longitudinal slot. The box is decorated with engraved lines, into which black pigment has been rubbed."

Used for storing dentalium shell money/currency.
