Bangalore, India

This is a contemporary Patua drawing showing an episode from the famous Elokeshi case - a murder scandal of 19th century Kolkata revolving around an illicit affair of a temple priest and a housewife. In the drawing Elokeshi is shown visiting the temple with her sisters where she meets the mahanta (priest). The location is made clear by the addition of the temple which resembles the actual Tarakeshwar temple in Bengal structurally and the lingam inside the sanctum.
