In the mid 19th century, embroidery reached its zenith in Kashmir. Known by the Farsi word 'sozani', which is a generic term for embroidery, it has developed an extensive and diverse design repertoire that utilises a variety of stitches. The bedspread is made from a thick cotton fabric in a pale brown colour and embroidered in threads in shades of red, orange, brown and green. There is a diamond shaped central motif enclosed by a rectangular border.
