Prior to the early 18th century, embroidery products were mainly produced by professional craftsmen and used to decorate large-scale furnishings. This particular decorative fabric is made from plain weave muslin. The high variation in thickness of the warp and weft introduces an obvious horizontal ribbing effect. Baroque-style patterns are embroidered into the fabric, and the embroidery gives the overall piece a metallic effect, including a special type of silver-gilded coil, imbuing the item with a highly distinctive and conspicuous impact.
