Embroidery with Plants

China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

In this piece, the embroidery consists of two sections of beige plain ground weave spliced together. The entire fabric is covered in a fan-shaped pattern embroidered from red silk thread, with individual flowers neatly arranged at the upper and lower ends. In India, Marathi red and cinnabar are very popular hues which are considered to be auspicious and are quite common in saris worn during wedding engagements.
