Like Camellia Petals Scattering (No. 45, Important Cultural Property, Yamatane Museum of Art), created and displayed the following year, Emerald Mosses and Verdant Turf is a large gold-ground screen that consciously employed the compositional style of the Rimpa School. The composition made up of bold color planes further heightens the decorative effect. The splits in the hydrangea and expression of the lawn are particularly noteworthy. Gyoshû himself commented, "Should this be the work left by an anonymous hand, it alone would make the artist talented and interesting." Indeed, this work is an effective use of techniques evolved from Gyoshû's individual creativity.
