It was with this project that Massimo Grimaldi is a winner of the MAXXIduepercento competition, organised thanks to the so-called “2% law” that sets aside this percentage of the cost of new public buildings for the realisation of public art. The artist used the funds for the construction of a paediatric hospital run by Emergency in Port Sudan in Africa. A video projection composed of the sequence of photographic reports documents the construction of the facility and the onset of work in the hospital. In his various projects with Emergency, Grimaldi considers “ethics as a frontier of aesthetics […]. Hospitals are […] a way of questioning ourselves regarding the motives that justify the presence of a work and above all a testimonial that that art may realise its utopias."
