Emerging Creative: Nombuso Khanyile

Nombuso Nomzamo Khanyile is a young designer completing her degree in biochemistry and microbiology at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. For the young designer it is due to the alarming increase in the rate of unemployment that she had to become self-reliant and start creating sustainable products from low cost materials.

As a co-founder of Afrikan Passion Designs, she creates handmade leather products using recycled materials. Some of the sandal soles that her company creates are made from recycled tyres and bags made from recyled plastic and tyres

Established in 2015, her company's mission is to combat climate change and global warming through the use of recycled materials to create marketable, sustainable and durable products from low cost recycled materials. Her work involving recycled and sustainable materials earned her the winning prize in the Youth Connect Innovative Business Competition.
