Emerging Creative: Siyanda Magaba

Siyanda Magaba grew up in the rural areas of Bizana and Matatiele, in the Eastern Cape. His interest in art and design is rooted in his childhood experiences where he enjoyed making things with his hands. This influenced his decision to pursue a career related to the arts.

He completed his diploma in Interior Design and Architecture at the Durban University of Technology in 2019.

He launched his furniture design company, Magaba Designs, during his second year of university. His brand's philosophy follows an eco-efficient approach to creating meaningful African identities expressed through design.

His Africular collection is inspired by African triangular patterns. These patterns are a cultural identity, a symbol of hierarchy, status and tribal roots. Africular is a composition of his creative journey by applying practical and design knowledge to create meaningful and aesthetically pleasing furniture. He believes that design is too expensive. The aim of Africular brand is to make good designs accessible to African markets and to create unique, crafted meaningful furniture that promotes awareness of African designs and social impact
