Emile Victor Clay was a chef and member of several New Orleans fraternal or benevolent associations, including Young Men Olympia, Knights of Peter Claver and the Elks Hall. He was 73 years old when he died on February 7, 1996. A mass was held for him on the morning of February 10 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Louisiana Avenue, which was followed by a jazz funeral. Majestic Mortuary was in charge of arrangements, with interment at Lafayette Cemetery No. 2.
