emperor Khai Dinh's bed (1916-1925)
The wooden bed was red lacquered and gilded. emperor Khai Dinh is the first Emperor of Nguyen Dynasty travelling abroad to France in 1922. He particularly interested in furnitures decorated in Henry II, Louis XIV and Louis XV style, which belongs to the French Renaissance culture in the 19th century.
During a decade of reign (1916-1925), he had left his own trademark in architectures and furnitures of then-modern style, a harmonization between Asian and European art.
Typical for the interior of Khai Dinh's interior is the emperor's bed, which was designed in Louis XV style, decorated with rattan dragon, embossed flowers, red lacquerd and gilded as Vietnamese tradition.
