Encolpion cross

An encolpion (Greek ἐγκόλπιον, meaning – 'on the chest') is a small reliquary, usually cross-like, rectangular or round in shape. It consists of two identical or different parts between which there is a gap, into which the relic would be placed. Encolpion crosses were most widespread in the Early Ruthenian lands. They are one of the most characterful examples of applied art.
