This instrument is one of the few english guitars built by Portuguese luthiers since the last quarter of the 18th century. Established in Braga, Domingos José de Araújo distinguished himself for the technical accuracy of the string instruments he made, in particular guitars, fiddles and viols. Besides this instrument, the collection of the Museu Nacional da Música also includes another english guitar built by Araújo.
