Wingfield Manor is situated near the village of South Wingfield and town of Alfreton, Derbyshire. Construction of the manor began in 1441 for Treasurer to King Henry VI, Sir Ralph Cromwell.

The manor was later the home of Bess of Hardwick’s husband, the Earl of Shrewsbury, who imprisoned Mary Queen of Scots here in 1569, 1584 and 1585 on behalf of Queen Elizabeth I.

The Manor still stands as a ruin, having been deserted in the 1770s.
