Seo, Eun-ae (1970- ) is one of the artists who have shepherd the passage of a new, modernized mode of traditional-style Korean painting since the 2000s. In her works people’s preconceived thoughts of utopia are re-presented by the incorporation of modern sensibilities into traditional pictorial techniques. In this work entitled “Enjoying Mt. Cheongsan as a Hermit,” which means an idyllic life in hills of evergreen, the artist in a robe of the kind that celestial beings would wear has a flight on a robot, which is her longtime friend, to an utopia.
