Entertainment card issued on the SS Orcades. Pale green with black print. The front features a stylised woman astride a hobby horse. Red Sea Race Meeting, 2 October 1959, to be held on Orcades races course. Lists the names of the meeting’s patron, judges, starter and time keeper, time of races and details of the ' tote' or betting arrangements. Inside features a list of races, names of 'jockeys' (all female), horses, and owners. Races included the Gibraltar Gallop, Colombo Canter, Naples Nip, Aden Amble, Fremantle Frolic, and Orcades Cup. The program has been notated by its owner with race picks and dividends. Back page details the race rules.

  • Provenance: Entertainment card issued to passengers on the Orient LIne Orcades on 2 October 1959. The card belonged to the Burns family who were holidaying in Norham, Berwick-On-Tweed, Northumberland, United Kingdom, during 1959. They were relatives of the donor Margaret Steenvoorde on her father's side. The Orcades (3) was built in 1948. It carried 1560 passengers in First and Second Classes, and was broken up in 1973.
