This two-panel, mini-lancet—purchased by Raymond Pitcairn from the New York gallery of Parisian dealer Lucien Demotte in 1928—was created from two fragmentary medieval stained-glass ensembles that probably came from two different windows in two different locations: (1) the figural group in the lower panel and (2) the interlacing grisaille that fills the pointed upper panel. The grisaille now surrounding the figural group is a recent confection, composed of modern and reused medieval glass. (Michael Cothren, Consultative Curator of Medieval Stained Glass)
