MIGUEL BATTEGAZZORE (1931). Painter, sculptor and stage designer. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts, where he studied with Felipe Seade and Miguel Ángel Pareja, and collaborated as an assistant in the studio of sculptor Eduardo Díaz Yepes. He was granted scholarships that enabled him to complete his training in Germany, Italy and Portugal, and participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions, among which it is worth mentioning the Sao Paulo Biennial (1979). He was distinguished with the Figari Award (2000), among other recognitions. His production recreates the symbols to “attempt to understand what we are doing as mankind”. Along this path, his work went from abstractionism to a personal figuration, in which there is a reinterpretation, updated, of constructive universalism. Entropía, homenaje a Jorge Amado (Entropy, a tribute to Jorge Amado IADB#1992.45) belongs to a series that works as an apology of the chaos of modernity. In clear reference to the crisis of the models of modernity, a reinterpretation of the symbolic world established by Joaquín Torres García is undertaken: what in the work of Torres was order, becomes chaos and disorder, the signs fall from their shelves or ledges”.
