Composition in black and white. Strong lines of overlapping graffiti, arriving to shine and produce intense black effect; Stiletto friezes and deleted. It depicts two boys, one of which is with a shotgun, giving a shot in the air, inside what appears to be a room. The boys are on the left of center of the composition, in the center of the room. They are represented by bright areas, contrasting with the interior of the room very dark. The on the left standing, from the front, with the head turned to the right, toward the other who is with the shotgun. He is with his arms raised, hands flat, has suggested facial features and appears to be scared. wear light clothing shorts, standing with legs spread and bare feet. To his on the left, the other boy, this higher, standing on his back with his arms raised, holding a rifle from which a shot, suggested by circular lines of lighter center than the edges. The figure has shown hair, wear light clothing and is with legs apart. In the room in the lower on the left corner, high-backed chair and seat round straw. On the right, rectangular table, diagonally from the left to the right and front to the back with a chair on the right and another to the bottom. Under the table, cue a fon the rightened cat. The interior is further suggested by quadrangular areas, more intense than the others.

  • Function: The story goes that César Lattes told the artist about a childhood incident that had left a lasting impression: his brother had asked their father, a hunter and gun enthusiast, if his shotgun was loaded; when he said no, César's older brother picked it up, at which time the gun fired, startling the boys terribly. Portinari drew the scene and gave the work to César Lattes as a gift.
