Erin Craig's toy pig

1946

National Museum of Australia

National Museum of Australia
Canberra, Australia

The toy pig belonged to Erin Craig, the daughter of Australian war bride Iris Adams and US Army Master Sergeant Jim Craig. Erin received the pig as a prize on board a ship as she and her mother sailed to meet her father in the US in 1946.

The stuffed toy pig has a red and off-white spotted cotton shell. The pig's left ear has been hand-stitched in place, and its right ear and tail are missing. The mouth is defined in chain-stitched black thread and the nose is roughly darned. The four legs and belly are hand-stitched. The legs have been repaired on the innermost side, and around the right side of its rear.
