Twin brother of Mario Villares Barbosa, he was born in Campinas, São Paulo. While in Brazil, he was a pupil of the painter Oscar Pereira da Silva, whose works are also part of Pinacoteca's collection. He traveled to Paris thanks to a pension from the government of São Paulo. The works by Dario are distinguished from other painters of his time since it already shows traces of modernity. After his death, his work was donated to the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes do Rio de Janeiro and to the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo.
