About the Work: Orozco is considered to be one of the most important 20th century muralists to work in fresco together with Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Unlike Diego Rivera’s more hopeful artistic depiction, Orozco’s art presented a pessimistic, satirical perception of Mexican society. Orozco was deeply disappointed with the aftermath of the Mexican Revolution and its failure to significantly change the lives of Mexican people. He created powerful presentations of the contrast between societal ideals and their corruption. Following the caricaturesque style of his drawings and his poignant criticism in Joint Chiefs of Buffoons the artist presents the Mexican army as an uncoordinated group of clowns.
