Aida Moreno (1919-1999) was a Uruguayan artist known for her paintings depicting contemporary still lifes and everyday scenes. Moreno's works depict simple, everyday objects, bringing together traditional elements of bodegones (still lifes) such as flowers, food, wine, tableware, and musical instruments. Her works also portray everyday scenes in the port of Montevideo or in Andean villages, as well as expressionistic depictions of the faces of people of humble means. Like some of her other works, Estructura (‘Structure’) is reminiscent of the paintings of Joaquín Torres García, organized in gridded sections across the canvas, where elements such as the fish, the human figure, the boat, and the house are recurrent.
