Bach usually composed the autograph scores, which served as models for the performance voices, in great haste. Deletions and corrections allow Bach researchers insights into the compositional process. After Bach's death, the scores of Bach's works were divided among his sons and finally spread all over the world. It was not until 2016 that the Bach Archive was able to purchase this autograph of the cantata "O, Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort" - after an odyssey over Hamburg, Berlin, Leipzig, Frankfurt, New York and London - from the Paul Sacher Foundation in Basel.
