Museu de São Roque
Lisboa, Portugal

This monstrance, from the morphological point of view, maintains the typology of the first half of the century, despite being imbued with the Baroque influence.
The stem, in the form of a pilaster with smoothed volutes, sits upon a quadrilobed foot decorated with godroons of vegetal type. The outer part starts around a large green stone and is developed in the shape of a radiant sun. The edge of the lunette (the inner most part) is lined with white stones of the same nature of those decorating the rays. A garland of grapes and wheat sheaves, frequently used at this time, in a clear allusion to the Eucharist. The piece is finished on the top by a cross equally decorated with precious stones.
