The teal is one of the many species of ducks that live in the Lagoon of Venice. It is found in Veneto throughout the year, but non-resident populations are able to migrate between extremely distant geographic areas, ranging from central Africa to Iceland, Lapland and Siberia, north of the Arctic Circle. A striking example of how the ability to fly has offered transcontinental migratory perspectives otherwise unattainable for land animals.
