The 1922 discovery of the grave of Tutankhamen by English archeologist Lord Carter launched a worldwide fad for all things of Egyptian fashion. This evening bag, made from the finest glass beads, is an excellent example thereof. A crowned Pharaoh in purple garment is depicted upon a black background. Brown strips with hieroglyph-like characters run the longitudinal sides of the highly rectangular bag. The bag hangs from a gold coloured carrying chain and has a rectangular clip with snap-lock. The bag end is trimmed in beaded fringe with diamond-shaped spangles in silver, steel blue, copper and black. The interior corresponds to the precious exterior of the bag. The upper edge of the beige satin lining is adorned with a narrow ornamental ribbon trim and seven small yellow roses.
