What is so special about the Matarazzo buildings is precisely the absence of the human presence, which results in a visible aura stamped in the marks of time on both the interiors and the surrounding grounds. The beauty of this state of abandonment stokes untold sensations in the visitor. In this installation, the dust kicked up by those walking through the place is transformed into “walls” of light by lasers on the corridor walls and doors. These new walls redesign the spatiality momentarily, until the layers of time settle down again. Microphones were also used to pick up and amplify the footfall, which is played back in delay.
